Back on the Kyoto Trail

+500m / -580m / 13km

I’m not working this Friday, and unlike the previous days, it’s not raining. I’m heading out for a rather “short” hike to enjoy the outdoors without burning myself. I initially wanted to walk south of Kyoto and pass by Yokoku-ji temple, but I prefer to avoid the crowds and opt for a less touristy route.

I set off from Ninose around 10:45am on the Kyoto Trail, the path that circles Kyoto, heading southwest. I first climb mount Mukai. It’s not very high (424m says the sign at the summit), but I still come across some patches of snow here and there.

There’s quite a bit of moisture under the trees, and the descent is a bit slippery. I reach the valley at the Jusanishi Bridge level and climb up the mountain on the opposite side. The path opens up to Nishigamo Himurocho, a hamlet with a few rice fields nestled in the middle of nowhere.

The path then gently descends to Funayama Golf Course. Finally, I walk through the few residential neighborhoods that separate me from Bukkyo University, and I catch the bus at 4:15pm.
